Emmanuel Rodriguez
Who are you?
I am Emmanuel Rodriguez a creature concept artist from a small town in New Mexico.
What are you most convinced of?
I am convinced that we really don't know anything, and everyone is just trying to get by, which leads to the troubles of today. be kind, you are not the only one who has problems
What gives you the most joy?
Seeing people happy and working together...and making creatures
How did you find yourself?
I am still searching for myself
Do you have a real-life situation that inspired your work?
Not really, mostly just emotions that I've felt I try to match that same feeling with a design
What makes you angry?
A lack of understanding from people with no desire to see the other side, zealously, arrogance.
What is the strangest situation that happened to you?
haven't had much really or at least things I think are not worth noting, one is I was out target shooting with my family and managed to hit four targets in a row by hip firing
What do you think about the interpretation of art? Do you want your art to be interpreted?
I like both, sometimes I put a direct concept or reaction that I want from people, but I also like being subtle and let people come up with their own stories
What do you think of the Susan Sontag’s phrase: ”In place of a hermeneutics we need an erotics of art”?
People should look at art how they please. I like open mindedness to see more that what is there, but also respect the artists intention
What would be your perfect environment for making your art?
Having the best necessary tools for the job and inspiration on the walls with other great artists to give you feedback... and some nice tunes to listen to of course
If you could choose a historical period and be there with the help of a time machine - what kind of time and place would it be?
I want to go to the deep future to see how todays actions influenced it.
What is your dream project?
Feature length films and a creature museum that I design
What is your favorite place that inspires you the most?
I usually use Instagram. to see what my favorite artists are doing.
What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
I’ve worked at a haunted house as an actor a couple of times. after that it has been mostly odd jobs.
What are your favorite books/movies/persons?
My favorite books are "the art of" for video games, I get to see all the amazing art that didn't make it and the process of getting the characters developed to what was shown. i really enjoy the movie hardcore henry because of its first-person aspects
How did you learn 3D modeling?
A long time of trial and error by myself, and with my buddy YouTube
What advice can you give to young artists?
Build your visual library, use good reference, change the way you practice because doing the same thing doesn't always mean you'll improve and don't be afraid to use a few cheats while you are learning to get you through as long as you learn from them and eventually stop using them for your professional work
Do you come up with some kind of stories while making your characters? Could you tell about one of them?
Sometimes, I usually make the faces or sounds they would make while I'm working on them, i like mystery in my characters so i try to have the expression tell you part of the story and you look at it and wonder how it got to that point
What kind of people inspire you?
Good hearted people, and funny people. those who have had it rough but still great you with warm smiles and free of judgment
What is your strength?
I'd like to say kindness and compassion, that and sculpture
